BIOGRAPHY
Born and raised in Haifa, Israel, Batya came to Los Angeles in 1962 with her husband. After earning a B.A. from the University of Judaism in Los Angeles, she taught Hebrew and ran a Hebrew school. All along she was painting as a hobby (taking classes, etc.)
In 1980 she decided to devote all of her energy and attention to painting. Batya is a contemporary Impressionist, painting in oil, but her figures are based on her knowledge and love of drawing. Her subjects vary; she does portraits, nudes, landscapes, still lifes, and free-form abstracts, all rendered in vibrant colors.
Batya had her first one-woman show in 1982 in the Limited Edition Gallery in Beverly Hills, California. She is a member of the Los Angeles Art Association and has participated in many group shows since 1982.
Her work was exhibited in Art of the Nineties, a gallery on Melrose avenue, between 1992 and 1995. She had a one-woman show in the Antique Showcase in Pasadena, California, in 1995. She has an ongoing exhibition in her home, where people come to view her work by appointment.
Batya has sold hundreds of paintings and drawings; her work graces the homes of collectors in Mexico, Israel, and throughout the United States.
